The Pineapple Sage is in full bloom now, just as a large number of hummingbirds are making their seasonal migration through the garden. If the light catches them just right, the throat feathers of the male Anna’s gleam fuschia like this one with the waning moon perched at the tip of a branch. There is rich red and burgundy throughout the garden this time of year, the last vibrant flaring of color before the subdued tones of the winter garden. Can you see the red shape behind the feeding hummingbird? I did not see the red car until after I looked at the photo, a reminder about how my focus can bring me in to something deeply and also make invisible what is beyond my intent gaze.
